Delaware State Legislative Election 2020 Political Courage Test

Pro-life a) Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
Yes b) Do you support legalizing abortion when the pregnancy resulted from incest or rape?
Yes c) Do you support the prohibition of public funds for organizations that perform abortions?
"Do I support legalizing abortion for....?" It is already legal, so the premise of the question is wrong. I also hardly think this is courage as this likely will not be coming up for a vote in the next two years, even with Amy Barrett on the Supreme Court.
No a) In order to balance the budget, do you support reducing state employee salaries AND/OR pensions?
No b) In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
c) Do you support legislation that would make the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) refundable in Delaware?
For the state, we have no sales tax. I would not institute one. The burden would be shifted from the income tax to road tolls, which we could increase to bring in needed funds.
No a) Do you support a limit on campaign contributions to state candidates?
Yes b) Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
Yes c) Do you support the use of an independent AND/OR bipartisan commission for redistricting?
d) Do you support requiring a government-issued photo identification in order to vote at the polls?
No e) Do you support automatic voter registration?
Voting has to mean something. It is our speech. If it becomes too easy, it becomes less meaningful. Make some effort! Also, I am not opposed to some independent oversight for redistricting.
Yes a) Do you support capital punishment for certain crimes?
b) Should an individual under 18 accused of a violent crime be prosecuted as an adult?
Yes c) Do you support the enforcement of federal immigration laws by state and local police?
d) Do you support the use of private prisons in Delaware?
No e) Do you support mandatory minimum sentences for non-violent drug offenders?
Capital Punishment should be for the most hardened and irredeemable. Its use should also be rare and kept on the books more as a deterrent than as a go to for punishment.
No a) Do you support state government spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes b) Do you support lowering state income taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes c) Do you support reducing government regulations on the private sector?
d) Do you support requiring welfare applicants to pass a drug test in order to receive benefits?
e) Do you support an increase of the minimum wage of Delaware?
f) Do you support requiring employers to provide paid family leave?
g) Do you support providing financial relief to businesses AND/OR corporations negatively impacted by the state of national emergency for COVID-19?
h) Should stores be required to accept cash payments?
I am not opposed to drug screens for welfare recipients, however I would not go so far as to make it a requirement. I would support random spot checks perhaps. I might be supportive of increasing the minimum wage to 9 or 10 dollars. As for requiring family leave, requiring stores to take cash, or providing corporate welfare, this is not government's role Government should not mandate anything for business, nor provide relief for failing businesses. Government can also move a lot faster to open the state up again.
a) Do you support adopting federal education standards in Delaware?
Yes b) Do you support state funding for charter schools?
Yes c) Do you support increasing teacher salaries AND/OR benefits in Delaware?
No d) Should immigrants unlawfully present in the United States who graduate from Delaware high schools be eligible for in-state tuition at public universities?
The state can adopt its own standards. As for immigrants, the system needs to improve to get people documented. We aren't going to deport 20 million people, and we should not be separating families. We have the technology, so lets fix the system.
No a) Do you support state funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, geo-thermal)?
b) Do you support government regulations of greenhouse gas emissions?
Yes c) Do you support increasing state funding for clean drinking water initiatives?
Funding for green energy can be federal, but beyond that let businesses innovate.
No a) Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
Yes b) Should background checks be required on gun sales between private citizens at gun shows?
Yes c) Should teachers be allowed to bring guns into the classroom after passing gun safety training?
d) Should a license be required for gun ownership?
Gun control is a misnomer. It is gun limitation. Which part of the US Constitution do people supporting gun control not understand? Also, where is the push for gun safety?
Yes a) Should the state government increase funding for treatment facilities to combat opioid abuse?
b) Do you support Medicaid expansion through Delaware's health care programs?
No c) Do you support requiring individuals to purchase health care insurance?
d) Do you support legislation that grants citizens the right to choose to die through euthanasia?
e) Do you support eliminating religious exemptions for vaccinations?
f) Do you support requiring businesses to provide paid medical leave during public health crises, such as COVID-19?
As for vaccinations, if the government schools require vaccinations, then a kid should be vaccinated. If a parent opts to home school their child, then there is no need to meet this government standard.
Yes a) Do you support the inclusion of sexual orientation in Delaware's anti-discrimination laws?
Yes b) Do you support the inclusion of gender identity in Delaware's anti-discrimination laws?
c) Do you support greater efforts by Delaware state government in closing the pay gap between men and women?
d) Other or expanded principles:
I support looking at consolidating school districts to perhaps the county level, so resources can be pulled and given to students more efficiently.
School districts should not be asking for tax increases through referendums for routine maintenance while threatening to cancel educational programs. Replacing an aging HVAC system for example is maintenance. More money will be devoted to schools when districts are consolidated into fewer, and students can go to school in their own neighborhoods. The savings will be on the reduced need to transportation and fuel.
